Rule of Thumb Guideline

The rule-of-thumb for determining whether to replace a home heating & cooling system is simple: older systems with higher and more frequent repair costs need to be replaced. An older system, including those just out of factory warranty or about to come out of an extended warranty, should be repaired. 15 years is the normal "wear" life of a home HVAC system. If your furnace and air conditioning system is more than 15 years old or older, then you should replace it. In the long run you will save money through lower operating costs.
